The simulated educational experience has the potential to enable convenient and effective interprofessional education in palliative care for students in the health professions.

Imagining avatars of students interviewing the standardized patient on the virtual reality platform is a more palpable reality every day. 

Interprofessional education (IPE) aims to encourage learning and collaboration between health students from different professions, with the aim of improving patient care. However, face-to-face programming of learning between students from different programs is one of the biggest barriers to implementing this type of learning.

In this sense, VR can bring together positions and realities from different sectors, while platforms to create virtual reality lessons in a simpler and faster way like Simlab IT, make this interprofessional education increasingly accessible.

We have come a long way since consumer VR moved from science fiction to commercial reality. Paediatric emergencies – though relatively rare – are, by definition, serious, with doctors, nurses and technicians fighting the clock and working in a much narrower window. These high-stakes, low-frequency events create an ethical dilemma: How to properly train medical staff and deliver best-in-class care without putting patients at risk?

By recreating real cases in VR, students and physicians can perform simulations on demand, repeating difficult cases until they get the proper diagnosis and treatment plan. When similar traumas pass through the emergency room doors, they will be armed with practical training that would not have been possible before.
