Almost 90% of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality companies in Spain are less than two years old.
The forecast for this year is that 80% of companies in both sectors will hire new professionals.
The Virtual and Augmented Reality sector is booming in Spain, which is positioning itself as a leading country in this industry. Without going any further, in the last two years the field of Extended Reality – which integrates virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality – has experienced explosive growth, according to a study carried out by The App Date and Telefónica: Since 2017, newly created companies in this sector have doubled, exactly 86.6% more. This is due to the high penetration of devices – such as smartphones, tablets and Virtual Reality accessories – in the Spanish market.
These data confirm that Spain is positioning itself as a world power in this technology, as 33% of Spanish companies invoiced more than 300,000 euros in 2018. This is largely due to the fact that the industry is not centralized in leisure consumption, but has also found a large market niche in services for companies, such as health, real estate or even public administrations.
According to experts in the field of Virtual and Augmented Reality, although the video game business continues to be a secure value, and there are great examples of how Virtual Reality fits into this segment, Spanish industry has been able to find more applications and diversify its services towards other sectors such as medicine and training, which gives it enormous potential for the future.
Without going any further, the study by The App Date and Telefónica states that for the next few months 80% of companies will make a significant investment in expanding their templates, with programmers, developers and 3D modelers and artists being the most in demand profiles, as well as comprehensive experts in Virtual Reality.
In fact, due to this growing market in Spain, this is one of the key sectors in IT, and where a greater demand for professionals is expected. For that reason, it is one of the sectors that will experience a greater growth and that will suppose a great labor opportunity for the professionals that are formed to work in a future more and more imminent.
Virtual reality and augmented reality at the service of medicine
Research into Virtual Reality applications for medicine began more than 20 years ago. But its use did not begin to democratize until the hardware was not powerful enough to provide good quality and cheap enough to reach the general public.
What uses of virtual reality and augmented reality are made in medicine?
The uses that are made of Virtual and Augmented Reality in medicine are very wide. From the training of doctors themselves, through the treatment of different illnesses to the accompaniment of the surgeon in an operation, these technologies have positioned themselves as true working tools for this sector.
Training of future doctors with augmented reality
Beginning to practice as a surgeon is always delicate due to the fact that at some point they must begin to perform the first operations on real patients.
Although learning methods are performed on animals, deceased humans or mannequins, they represent an important cost for educational centres and have limitations for students.
In this sense, Virtual Reality is a technology that responds perfectly to the educational needs of medicine. Thanks to VR, medical students can repeat the training as many times as necessary, put into practice different surgical methods, analyze different pathologies, see different organs from different angles, and avoid practicing with real patients.
