Almost 90% of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality companies in Spain are less than two years old.

The forecast for this year is that 80% of companies in both sectors will hire new professionals.

The Virtual and Augmented Reality sector is booming in Spain, which is positioning itself as a leading country in this industry. Without going any further, in the last two years the field of Extended Reality – which integrates virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality – has experienced explosive growth, according to a study carried out by The App Date and Telefónica: Since 2017, newly created companies in this sector have doubled, exactly 86.6% more. This is due to the high penetration of devices – such as smartphones, tablets and Virtual Reality accessories – in the Spanish market.

These data confirm that Spain is positioning itself as a world power in this technology, as 33% of Spanish companies invoiced more than 300,000 euros in 2018. This is largely due to the fact that the industry is not centralized in leisure consumption, but has also found a large market niche in services for companies, such as health, real estate or even public administrations.

According to experts in the field of Virtual and Augmented Reality, although the video game business continues to be a secure value, and there are great examples of how Virtual Reality fits into this segment, Spanish industry has been able to find more applications and diversify its services towards other sectors such as medicine and training, which gives it enormous potential for the future.
